Ok… So in my hopes of trying to live life (real time), and coordinate an on line presence, I found Second Life. It is, what it sounds like… A Second Life. Before I go any further… Second Life is Awesome, with the exception of certain SIMS or should I say Residents. Oh, I wish I could mention them here. I really should, but… I’m not going to.
Second Life is a pretty kewl place, if you enjoy on line chat. Pretty much, the ultimate in chat that I’ve ever found. Create an avatar (your likeness, and/or as you would like others to see you), find your favorite place in Second Life, interact in real time, and have a blast.
Beware… There will be those, as in Real Life, that like to impress upon you and others their agendas. It may be in small, insignificant ways, but all in all… Still an Agenda. Beware of those that try to push their agendas, those that with knowledge of a covenant (rules of a sim), will try to impress sim residents, and managers… Ultimately getting their way. A very NOT KEWL environment.
Personally… I’m one that follows the rules (covenants). A particular SIM, which I will not mention (but you can ask if you like), has residents that feel the covenants do not apply to them, even though they agreed to them. Fortunately I was not one of them, as I agreed to the covenant, when purchasing the right to a parcel. After a period of time, the residents told the manager of the parcels, that the residents would leave if he did not change the rules. Guess what? He did change the rules and in addition to the rules, it stated any and all problems within the SIM would have to be dealt with within the community, without the help of the manager. Wow, what a trade off, eh?
Covenant Rule That Was Disputed: In most Second Life regions (SIMS) red ban lines are not acceptable. The reason for this is, they are extremely ugly, and new comers and/or those that are not associated with a particular area, are bounced around, not allowed access. Most SIMs… This one in particular, hope that new guests will venture into their SIM, and like what they see. Alas, they are met with harassment, and are pushed away, not able to see what the SIM offers. (Red Ban Lines Were Prohibited When Owners Were Not Present)
Popular SIMS don’t allow this, hoping that all visitors will view their parcels (land for rent or purchase), in hopes they will become a resident. There are security orbs, that prevent access to homes, that are much nicer than the red ban lines.
In this same SIM, as I mentioned above, new comers are faced with harassment. Very bad practice! (not something the management would approve of) It’s almost like a mob mentality. If you don’t fall into their way of thinking, they will harass and make you feel as though you are not worthy of their little SIM. Sad but true, it happens in Second Life, as it does in Real Life.
If you experience this, my recommendation is… Log the event, and report it to the manager of the Property/SIM. Unfortunately, most new Second Lifer’s are unaware that they can do that, and/or afraid to.
Bully’s are bully’s… Whether they are in Real Life, Second Life (Avatar based), the SIMs (Avatar based), Chat Rooms, or any other on line virtual world.
Side Note: I had gotten into a disagreement (I was a parcel owner), which turned ugly within a particular SIM. My argument started because of those that impressed upon others their disagreement with the SIM Covenant (certain parcel owners were real time friends). Sucking wind here… I know I made comments that were ugly, and that’s not normally like me. When it comes to friends, who say they are friends (most importantly real life friends), maybe they should sit back, call on the telephone, see what my problem is, before claiming I never was a friend to the SIM (owners of parcels).
A Covenant Is A Covenant. Abide By The Rules!!
